CCSD Food Waste Composting Program
Students and staff in 49 schools across the District are "sorting it out" during lunch time!
Initiated in the 2012-2013 school year, schools within the District have been educating their students on the importance of recycling food waste and its key role in our plant lifecycle. In partnership with Charleston County Environmental Management and Food Waste Disposal, LLC, CCSD has developed an innovative, student-led waste diversion program that is one of a kind.
In November 2015, the District's compost program was recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for Outstanding Achievement in Food Waste Prevention and Diversion.
