At North Charleston Elementary, your library offers you a host of resources. Here are brief descriptions of just some of the things that are right at your fingerprints.
  • Meet your librarian!

  • Peggy Ferrin has served as North Charleston Elementary School’s library media specialist since 2017 when she moved to Charleston from Fairfax, Virginia. She taught high school English and French for three years before focusing on elementary school education.  She completed her  Library Media Specialist certification from the University of Virginia in 2010.

“I want our students to love finding a good book and to enjoy visiting our library. This year our second graders were state champions in Malcolm Mitchell’s READBowl for reading so many minutes during the month before the SuperBowl. Now we are promoting getting lost in a great series with the initiative: Read Two and the Next One’s on Us.  Students who read two books in a series receive the next book for free from Mrs. Brubaker, our principal.

“As a kid I read books late into the night under the covers by flashlight, upsetting my parents very much! For me, a library is the best place in the world to be.” Besides lots of terrific books, the NCES media center has a giraffe named Jeff and three zebras named Zany, Zoey and Zimbow. Ms. Ferrin is currently reading R-E-S-P-E-C-T: Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, by Carole Boston Weatherford, illustrated by Frank Morrison.
