  • Charleston County School District believes in embracing answerability and accountability. In order to continuously improve student achievement, we utilize a 6-Step Process developed by the Carnegie Foundation.

    • See the system that is producing the current outcomes,
    • Embrace measurement to monitor your progress,
    • Learn through disciplined inquiry engaging in rapid cycles of Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA),
    • Organize as networks and collaborate to solve problems,
    • Be problem-focused and user-centered to get at the root causes of problems, and
    • Attend to variability in the system to replicate best practice and identify opportunities for improvement (OFIs).

Lexile Results from the Spring 2017 SC READY Assessment by Grade and School. Lexiles provide a measure of a student’s reading achievement. Graphs in this section show the percentage of students whose Lexile score indicates they are on-track for college and career readiness in terms of reading achievement as well as those who have exceeded the college and career readiness standards in their grade level. This analysis is based on Metametric’s work, in which they examined the reading achievement that was needed for students to master Common Core standards in each grade level. The final graph shows the Lexile results for currently-enrolled 9th-grade students, based on their 8th grade (spring 2017) SC READY results, presented by their 2017-18 high school. This analysis is useful for high schools as it provides information about the reading achievement of their current freshman classes when they entered high school.

Statistical Analyses Comparing School Achievement and Poverty. These analyses present results from the Spring 2017 SC READY assessment administered in grades 3-8 and the Spring 2017 ACT assessment administered in grade 11. The graphs plot all South Carolina’s schools’ results against the 2017 school poverty index. These analyses are used to identify how CCSD schools are performing relative to other schools with similar levels of poverty. It can be used to identify other CCSD and non-CCSD schools that serve similar student populations but show better achievement results. Results can be seen at the following links (results for another grade range/subject can be viewed by clicking on the appropriate link under “Metadata” at the bottom-right of the display)::
