To learn more about all student options listed above, click on the appropriate age level tab below. The age listed is the age a student must be as of September 1st of the school year applying to attend.

There are five Application Options within this age group.

School Choice

1. CHOICE APPLICATION

For the possibility to attend:

  •      A Magnet School or Specialized Program
  •      A Participating Charter School (must reside in Charleston County)
  •      A Montessori School (up to 8th grade)

A family must submit a CHOICE APPLICATION.

Exceptions: Some Magnet Schools have an attendance zone, and we refer to these as “Magnets with Zone” or "Constituent District Magnets". If a student resides in the attendance zone for such Magnet school, a family does not need to submit a Choice application before registering for the school. However, if a family is interested in a Montessori school for PK3, PK4 or Middle School grades 6-8, they must submit a Choice application, even if the student resides in the enrollment zone of the Montessori school.

Transportation: Offered from centralized bus stops for magnet schools and some charter schools.

For information about the Choice Application Cycle, visit ccsdschools.com/schoolchoice

2. STUDENT TRANSFER APPLICATION

Student Transfer

For the possibility to attend a school which is not a magnet school or program, nor a Charter school, and different from the school the student is zoned to attend:

A family must submit a STUDENT TRANSFER APPLICATION.

A Choice school or program is not an option for transfers.

Transportation: Not available.

For information about the Student Transfer Cycles, visit ccsdschools.com/studenttransfer

3. LOW COUNTRY VIRTUAL - ONLINE SCHOOL PROGRAM

Lowcountry virtual

For the possibility to participate in a full-time virtual program for grades 5-8:

A family must submit a CCSD LOW COUNTRY VIRTUAL APPLICATION.

Students will remain enrolled at their zoned school while attending the full-time virtual program.

Transportation: This is a 100% online program. Students do not require transportation to school.

For information about the CCSD Low Country Virtual Online School Program, visit Low Country Virtual's website, or email virtualacademy@charleston.k12.sc.us, or call 843-937-6428.

4. CCSD ONLINE - FULL-TIME ONLINE HIGH SCHOOL

CCSD Online Learning provides opportunities for high school students to earn credits through a variety of virtual course options.

CCSD Online

For the possibility to participate in a full-time virtual program option for grades 9th-12th:

Interested families need to contact their zoned school's Full-Time Online contact
(usually the School Counseling Director) to discuss this as an option. To proceed with the request, the school will notify the Online Learning department which will then contact the family.

Students will remain enrolled at their zoned high school while attending the full-time virtual program.

Transportation: Students in the Full-Time Online High School program do not need transportation to school.

For information about CCSD Online, email online_learning@charleston.k12.sc.us

5. MILITARY FAMILY APPLICATION

Military Resources

For the possibility to attend a school or program outside the student's school zone and in accordance with the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children:

A family must submit a MILITARY APPLICATION offered by CCSD to active military families with orders assigned to Joint Base Charleston.

This opportunity is available after the CCSD application cycles have closed and is

limited to one-year from the date of the relocation orders for active duty military families.

School Choice options are based on space availability at schools or programs and require

military applicants to meet eligibility standards for criteria-school acceptance.

This application does not include CCSD-sponsored charter schools.

Families are encouraged to participate in the Choice Application process or Student Transfer process.

Transportation: Dependent on the category of school (Choice or Transfer option)
