Charleston County School District (CCSD) Superintendent Anita Huggins unveiled the Peninsula Promise, a comprehensive initiative designed to expand access to high-quality educational experiences for every child living on the historic Charleston Peninsula on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
The 2026 District Book Battle Champions - “The Dudes” from Stiles Point Elementary were introduced to the board as the winners of this year’s competition. Since 2019, CCSD has hosted an annual Book Battle competition for fourth- and fifth-grade elementary school students. The event has grown to include over 20 schools competing, serves as the culminating event for our district’s Read Across America Week each year, and highlights the value and excitement of student reading.

A pair of talented students from Charleston County School District made their mark in the 2026 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for young artists and writers in grades 7-12.

Sixty seniors from a combined 11 high schools throughout Charleston County School District were part of the sixth annual Future Teacher Signing Day Ceremony at West Ashley High School on April 2, 2026.

Emily Collier, an English and AP Language and Composition teacher at West Ashley High School, was selected as one of just eight educators from across South Carolina to participate in the Spring 2026 Strategies for Teacher Advancement and Renewal Seminar.

For the 2025-2026 school year, the district will highlight two student-athletes each week.
Nominations are provided from the school level to the district athletic director; one school will be featured each week.
