CCSD employees to receive COVID-19 vaccinations starting next week
In partnership with MUSC, Charleston County School District (CCSD) will begin COVID-19 vaccinations of CCSD employees next week. School-based employees will receive the vaccine first. To allow for the shots to be administered, schools will move to eLearning Days based on the dates faculty receive their vaccinations.

Laing awarded “BEST” teacher grant from BOSCH
Dr. Mel Goodwin, STEM Coach at Laing Middle School, and pre-engineering teacher, Analyn Haynes have received a BEST teacher grant from BOSCH. The Bosch Eco+STEM Teacher (BEST) Grant Program advances sustainability and STEM education in ways that inspire, excite, and engage.

JBE librarian receives 2021 Intellectual Freedom Award
Heidi Benton, James B. Edwards Elementary School teacher-librarian, has received the 2021 Intellectual Freedom Award from the South Carolina Association of School Librarians. She was nominated by Christy James, District Library and Media Services Coordinator for Charleston County School District. This award recognizes those who advocate for the First Amendment rights of students, teachers, and citizens of South Carolina.

NCES second graders take state championship in READBowl ‘21
Jessica Kirkpatrick’s second graders at North Charleston Elementary School (NCES) learned that they had read their way to becoming the South Carolina State Champions in the K-2 Primary Conference for READBowl ’21.

Cultural Competency Policy
CCSD’s Cultural Competency Team (CCT) announces the launch of its new website. The creation of the website represents a continuation of the District’s efforts to fully implement the School Board’s Cultural Competency Policy, Policy ACE.

The "Unsung Educator of the Week" is a weekly honor given to a CCSD educator. The winner is nominated by a peer because of their determination to go above and beyond for our students. The winner for the week is published each Friday in the CCSD All Staff newsletter.
