The Creative Writing group researched persons and events that were important in the history and culture of the sea islands and wrote a play portraying Esau Jenkins, an islander who made significant contributions. Through this project, they gained an appreciation of the importance of using literature to preserve culture and history.

These students used a variety of media to research local history, identified the elements of a play, determined their story line, gathered oral histories through interviews of persons in the community, selected historical events and worked together to write a play about Esau Jenkins. Throughout the project, they kept journals chronicling their progress.
