Narrator: After the shooting, Esau held another meeting with the thirteen people from the last meeting and brought to their attention an idea that he thought would be beneficial to the community: The Progressive Club
Esau: Welcome to the Progressive Club. Since there are only thirteen members, there will be dues of twenty-five cent for each time we meet. As we begin the first meeting of the Progressive Club remember: Love is Progress, hate is expensive. We all need to be aware of why this club was started.
Bill Saunders: In order to be an active organization, we need to elect officers.
Narrator: After the officers were elected, they brought up some important issues that needed to be discussed.
Anderson Mack: Let's talk about getting a school on the island.
Septime P. Clark: Where are we going to get the money from?
Esau: I think we should go to the school board and ask them to build a school here on the islands.
Member #2: We should go on strike because then they will realize that we mean business.
Member #3: We shouldn't fight fire with fire, but we have to get our point across.
Member #4: What else can we do?
Bill Saunders: First of all we need to get more members of the community involved.
Narrator: The news of the Progressive Club soon spread to the people of the community. Even though they didn't participate in the meetings, they still sent their support.
