Record Number of Students Participate in the 2012 Athletic Signing Day
Charleston County School District (CCSD) kicked off the month of February with a record number of high school seniors committing to colleges and scholarships at its annual athletic signing event.
Scores of parents, coaches, school and district administrators, and the media congregated in the district's county Board of Trustees room as 31 students from five of the district's high schools committed to a total of 23 colleges and universities.
In remarks to the athletes and audience, district leaders recognized the young men and women for their hard work in the classroom, at home, and in their sport. CCSD's Associate Superintendent Lou Martin and Physical Education/Athletics Learning Specialist Coach David Spurlock also thanked parents for their partnership and commitment, acknowledging the profound impact this support has had on their children's success.
This event reflects the ongoing relationship between academic achievement and the district's emphasis on physical health and emotional wellness.
