A hands-on approach to lifelong learning |
|
Even Start
Even Start is a federally funded program that assists families in achieving educational, job, and family goals. Grants are competitive and renewable for four years during each funding cycle. Even Start families are chosen based on established need for services and a commitment to work on identified goals. The Child and Family Development Center's Even Start program offers services in the four components of Family Literacy:

Early Childhood Education
At the Center, we have classes for children ages six weeks through four years
of age. Our early childhood classes include Child Development (Pre-K), Early
Childhood Diagnostic (ECD), Early Head Start, and Head Start. All classes have
a literacy-based focus to prepare children for success in school.

Adult Education
GED classes, job skills and information,
and computer classes are included in the Adult Education component at the Center.
We have a full-time Adult Education teacher who uses a hands-on, interactive
approach with our adult learners.
Parent
Education
Parents at the Center are expected to participate fully in all aspects of the
Parenting Program at the Center: Parenting sessions, home visits by a parent
educator, and literacy-based activities for parents and children to do at home.

Time for Parents
and Children Together
The Center offers many enjoyable activities for parents and children to do together.
During time spent in the child's classroom, the Center staff model adult-child
interaction skills and strategies and then have a reflection time for parents
to voice concerns and ask questions. Family Fun Times and Family Field Trips
occur regularly during the year.
