On Thursday, March 9, District officials surprised the five finalists for District Teacher of the Year. Each finalist had the opportunity to check out a MINI Cooper from MINI of Charleston that the District Teacher of the Year will receive at the Teacher of the Year Celebration Dinner taking place in May. Congratulations to each of our finalists!

Special thanks to Rick Hendrick, MINI of Charleston, and the Charleston RiverDogs for their partnership with CCSD in recognizing and rewarding our teacher leaders through the Teacher of the Year process.

Meet the 2017 Teacher of the Year Finalists

Barbara AllenBarbara C. Allen
Mt. Pleasant Academy


Congratulations to Barbara C. Allen!

Ms. Allen attended Charleston Southern University, earning her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and her Masters in Divergent Learning. Currently serving as a third grade teacher, Barbara is celebrating her 20th year in education.


Elizabeth O'BrienElizabeth O’Brien
Laurel Hill Primary


Congratulations to Elizabeth O’Brien!

Ms. O’Brien currently teaches K-2 Special Education and is the Team Leader f0r the Special Education Department. Elizabeth attended Marist College, where she earned her Bachelors in Special Education. She has served in CCSD for four years.

Congratulations to Mia Pace!

Entering her fifth year with Charleston County, Mia currently instructs grades CD-5 as a Computer Lab Instructor. Ms. Pace received her Bachelor of Science in Education at Chowan University and earned a Masters in Education at Troy University.

Mr. Stallings attended the College of Charleston earning his Bachelors and Masters in Education. With only four years of teaching experience as an English Teacher, Eric serves as the Team Leader for the 8th grade at Baptist Hill.

Congratulations to Glenn Tollevsen!

Glenn earned his Bachelor of Science at the University of Phoenix and Methodist University. He has taught in Charleston County for six years and currently serves as a kindergarten teacher at Stono.
