Superintendent Gerrita Postlewait, Ed.D.

Headshot of Dr. PostlewaitGerrita Postlewait, Ed.D., became the Charleston County School District’s (CCSD) superintendent on July 8, 2015.

She brings a strong record of successful leadership to CCSD having served as superintendent for over 16 years in two geographically and socioeconomically diverse counties.

Throughout her career, she has served in numerous district-level and school administrative positions that include overseeing special education, student services, community relations, curriculum development and instruction. As a teacher, she taught in public and parochial schools for more than seven years in four different states.

Prior to joining CCSD, Dr. Postlewait served as the Assistant Vice-President for ACT in Iowa City, Iowa and served as the Chief K-12 Officer for The Stupski Foundation in San Francisco, California.

Dr. Postlewait received her Doctorate in Education Administration, a Master of Arts in Education Leadership and a Bachelor of Science from West Virginia University. She continued her post-doctoral studies through classes and seminars at Stanford, Harvard and Columbia University.
