From the Superintendent's Desk - June 28, 2012
The big news this week is that on Monday evening, our Board passed the budget for next school year. By including investments in our people and an expansion of our successful literacy academies model, the budget paves the way for us to reach the bold targets outlined in Charleston Achieving Excellence: Vision 2016.
The passage is the result of a lot of hard work. I want to thank everyone involved in the budget development process—the Board; the many employees, partners, and citizens who provided feedback on our priorities; and, of course, our finance team who has worked diligently to propose and refine a budget that does more with less while keeping students at our center.
The second major development from Monday’s meeting was the hiring of five new principals. (If you haven’t had a chance to do so yet, I invite you to learn more about our newly appointed leaders.)
I welcome each of our new employees and I know that together, we can continue to make incredible strides in our efforts for children.
The work isn’t always easy (which is why the Employee Wellness Initiative is more important than ever). I hope all of our employees can take some well-deserved time for themselves and their loved ones during our week-long shutdown next week.
Have a safe week, and we look forward to hitting the ground running when we open our office doors again on July 9.
