From the Superintendent's Desk - February 17, 2012
Following our Board meeting on Monday, we held Vision 2016 meetings at Stall and North Charleston High Schools. This was our third of four dates of school-based Board meetings in January and February. If you haven’t had a chance to join us, please come out to West Ashley High School or Burke High School on Monday, February 27th for the last of our public engagement meetings.
At the end of this month, we will have held Vision 2016 meetings in every one of our neighborhood high schools. Hundreds of people will have helped us answer these questions: Are these the right achievement targets? What will it take to achieve them? And if we’re going to achieve them, name something we need to keep doing, stop doing, and consider doing?
If you haven’t had a chance to weigh in, please visit our Vision 2016 page, watch the video, and e-mail your thoughts to Vision2016@charleston.k12.sc.us. Shortly, we’ll be bringing all of this feedback to the Board, finalizing our achievement goals, and launching our new plan.
Our goals and core strategies—the priorities that will inform our budget investments this year—were key topics all week as I met with the Student Advisory Group, honored guests at the monthly "Breakfast with the Superintendent," the Interfaith Roundtable, and the Constituent Board Chairs.
It was a busy week, and now it will slow down a bit. I hope the teachers enjoy their work day today—teachers need this precious time—and everyone enjoys Presidents’ Day on Monday!
Enjoy the weekend and I’ll see you in schools soon.
