OUTSTANDING FEATURES/PROGRAMS: All core classes and most related arts classes are single-gender; Math-intensified curriculum including electives in Pre-Algebra (7th grade), Algebra (offered to 8th grade students for high school credit), Banking and Marketing; ELA and Math classes are taught daily in 90-minute blocks; Social Studies and Science classes are taught every other day in 90-minute blocks; Academic Intervention Program; Advisory Program; Peer Mediation; Reading and Math Specialists support lower-level readers and math students; two full-time guidance counselors available (one for girls; one for boys); SAIL/Honors Enrichment classes are offered to eligible students; Honors offered in all core subject areas; three computer labs house 90 computers networked to the Internet.

EXTRACURRICULAR OFFERINGS: Sports: Football, Basketball, Softball, Track, Volleyball, Soccer, Cheerleading, Drill Team; Music: Band, Jazz Band, Strings; Activities/Clubs: Every other Friday afternoon is “Club Day”- clubs include Art, Drama, Gospel Choir, Student Council, Leadership Club, Female Leadership Club, Youth Court, Step Team, Recycling Team, Black History Bowl, Yearbook, Reading Club, Crafts Club, Walking Club, and Sailing Club.
SPECIAL INCENTIVES: Awards every nine weeks for principal’s list, honor roll, perfect attendance, good citizenship; students with good behavior participate in “Rewards Day” every other Friday afternoon which includes outdoor recreation, basketball and a movie; students earn “Cat’s Cash” and Wildcat stamps for good behavior – cash and stamps may be redeemed for special events such as “Dessert Day” or “Rewards Day.”
UNIQUE ASSETS: All core classes and related arts classes (except SAIL/Honors Enrichment, band and strings) are single-gender; all core-area classrooms are grouped together by gender into the Girls Academy of Learning and the Boys Academy of Learning.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:PTSA and School Improvement Council are very active. A canned food drive is conducted annually in December to benefit the poor. Food is donated through the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church across the street from our school. Each fall, students, teachers and parents participate in the statewide Beach/River Sweep. A garden located on school grounds is maintained by staff and students and vegetables grown in the garden are donated to local homeless shelters and soup kitchens. The School Improvement Council works with local businesses to provide Job Shadowing opportunities for our students.
