OVERVIEW: Instruction at the EXcellence in Creativity and Educational Leadership (EXCEL) Academy at Morningside Middle School is based on a single-gender model that incorporates the state standards and Charleston County School District’s Coherent Core Curriculum.

OUTSTANDING FEATURES: Each academy has its own administrators, core content teachers, guidance counselor, and a designated area in the building with its own entrance and carpool lanes. Upgrades to the building help fully support the single-gender instructional model.

The EXCEL Academy at Morningside Middle offers its students the following:

• specialized single-gender instruction based on how female students learn most effectively
• teams of qualified and dedicated teachers who have received training on single-gender learning and who can work together to meet the specific needs of each child
