OUTSTANDING FEATURES/PROGRAMS: The mission of the Academic Magnet High School is to challenge each student, teacher and parent with the high expectations of a rigorous curriculum. We provide a learning environment that thoroughly prepares students for college and develops their self-esteem. Our students are encouraged to be citizens of the world, to acquire a sense of global responsibility, and to cultivate a respect for cultural diversity. The students at AMHS are provided with a unique opportunity to conduct independent research in a field of the student's choice. Students are required to conduct a year-long research project with the guidance and direction of our faculty and a mentor (a professional in that field). Our students have been published in academic and professional journals in such fields as Psychology, Chemistry, and Epidemiology.

EXTRACURRICULAR OFFERINGS: Students have the opportunity to excel in one of 17 sports activities at the varsity level. The Academic Magnet High School has several state champions and a disproportionate number of all-state athletes. Due to the small student population at our school, first-year students contribute significantly to varsity teams. Students also have the opportunity to participate in over 40 clubs and organizations including the Academic Bowl, Forensics, Drama, Sailing, Photography, STAND, and Mu Alpha Theta (Mathematics Honors Society).

SPECIAL INCENTIVES: Honors and AP courses at the Academic Magnet High School offer students an unmatched opportunity to earn college credit while in high school and to earn a grade point average greater than 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. The twenty Advanced Placement courses offered at AMHS include AP English Literature, English Language, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics, Computer Science AB, Computer Science BC, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Studio Art, European History, Psychology, US History, US Government, Macroeconomics, Music Theory, Spanish, and French.

FACULTY INFORMATION: Faculty members of the Academic Magnet High School are exceptionally skilled and highly motivated professionals with enriched academic backgrounds. Many of our faculty are also adjunct instructors at local colleges and universities. Sixty-eight percent of our faculty have earned advanced degrees.

UNIQUE ASSETS: The Academic Magnet High School is centrally located in the county. As a relatively small high school of approximately 600 students, we provide our students with a more personalized education and high school experience. All of our courses are taught at the honors or advanced placement level.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Students are required to complete a 90-hour community service requirement in order to graduate.
