Facility Use
The Board of Trustees wishes to encourage the use of school facilities when school is not in session. The board has approved the use of all schools for after hours use by the public through the Community Education program. For location availability and rental fee policy guidelines please contact the Community Education program director in your area.
Procedures & requirements for renting facilities are as follows:
- Read Policy KF (Guidelines for use of school facilities), which also include Hourly Building Rental Rates information, and equipment rental information.
- Contact the Community Education Director first for space availability and preliminary approval.
- Fill out and sign the Application for community use of school facilities and grounds (both page 1 & page 2).
- Application must be filed with the Community Ed Director not less than 30 days before intended use. The $5.00 non-refundable application fee (only check or money orders accepted) must be paid Ten (10) working days prior to the scheduled event. Late applications may NOT be processed on time.
- Insurance certificate, total payment for fees, rent & services must be received before a use permit can be issued by the District.
- To ensure proper credit to your account, please include applicant's name (as on application), school requested, & reservation # (if known) on all payments.
- Once all the requirements are met, the permit will be sent to renters via fax, email or US mail.
Leases in Operating School Buildings
The Charleston County School District leases out portions of operating school buildings for child care and related programs which directly support the school program. Other types of programs or activities approved by School Board policies can also lease space in operating schools.
Uses that are longer than twice a week and more than twelve weeks are handled through lease agreements.
Procedures & requirements for leasing facilities in operating schools are as follows:

- Contact the Community Education Director first for space availability and preliminary approval.
- Fill out and sign the Application for community use of school facilities and grounds (both page 1 & page 2).
- If it is determined that a lease agreement is necessary, the applicant submits the completed Application Packet directly to the Property Management Office no later than 30 working days prior to intended occupancy.
- Once the application is approved by the Property Management and Facilities Services Office, a lease agreement would be processed for signature.
- Proof of insurance, security deposit, first month's rent, a finalized lease agreement and any necessary permits & licenses for lessee's operation must be in place prior to occupancy.
