Board Approved Decisions & Current Transition Information
The district is currently working with students, parents, employees, community members and constituent boards to ensure a smooth transition for the 2009-2010 school year. I. School Closures
District 1: McClellanville Middle
- Current Status: The District has finalized student placements. Parents were notified that their children may attend their home school (Lincoln High) or explore other options as outlined in the March 9 letter posted below.

- School Options Include moving current 6th and 7th graders to Lincoln High School as 7th and 8th graders next year. School officials has ensured an appropriate 7-12 academic programming model and related facility layout.
District 4: Brentwood Middle
- Current Status: The District 4 Constituent Board has approved and publicly released the new middle school attendance zones. Parents were notified of their choices and school assignments for the 2009-2010 school year.

- School Options Include
- 1) the neighborhood North Charleston middle school your child will be assigned to (Alice Birney, Morningside, or Zucker) based on new attendance zones,
- 2) applying to the brand-new Zucker School for Math and Science partial magnet school
- 3) applying to one of the district's countywide magnet schools, charter schools or other partial magnet schools
District 20: Fraser Elementary
- Current Status: The District 20 Constituent Board has approved and publicly released the new elementary school attendance zones. Parents were notified of their choices and school assignments for the 2009-2010 school year.
- An Open House occurred on Thursday, February 26 at Fraser. School officials and representatives from Charleston Progressive Academy, Memminger, Mitchell, and Sanders-Clyde were on-hand to meet with parents, discuss next year’s options, and talk about the new and improved settings current Fraser students will benefit from next year.

- School Options Include
- 1) Sanders-Clyde (the brand-new facility is opening mid-year),
- 2) seats at Charleston Progressive Academy and who is currently accepting applications for Fraser students until March 15th.
- 3) applying to the brand-new Mitchell and Memminger elementary schools, which will open next year as partial magnet schools.
District 23: Schroder Middle
- Current Status: The District has finalized student placements. Parents were notified that their children may attend their home school (Baptist Hill High) or explore other options as outlined in the March 9 letter posted below.

- School Options Include moving 6th and 7th graders in the 2008-2009 school year to Baptist Hill High school as 7th and 8th graders next year. School officials have ensured an appropriate 7-12 academic programming model and related facility layout.
Charlestowne Academy
- Current Status: The District worked with parents to finalize student placements for students who were grades Kindergarten through 8 during the 2008-2009 school year, as well as rising 10th-12th grade students.
- Two Open Houses occurred in late February. District officials were on-hand to meet with parents and discuss options for the 2009-2010 school year.

- School Options for Rising K-8th Grade Students
- 1) the neighborhood home schools based on attendance zones,
- 2) applying to one of the district's countywide magnet schools, charter schools or other partial magnet schools such as the communications-themed Chicora Elementary
- Existing 9th-11th grade students were presented with the option to move as a school within a school to the Septima Clark Academy campus.
- For the Hearing Impaired program, elementary students will have a permanent new home at North Charleston Elementary, and middle and high school students will be at the School of the Arts.
II. Grade Modifications
Charleston Progressive
- Stays Open as a K-6
- Current Status for rising 7th and 8th grade students: A parent meeting was held Tuesday, February 24, at 6PM for CPA parents of students in grades six and seven. Parents asked questions and discussed their children’s options for the 2009 – 2010 school year.

Jane Edwards
- Current Status: At the March PTA meeting of Jane Edwards, parents were given the opportunity to discuss School Redesign and its impact on their children.
- The School Will Stay Open as a CD-6.

- Letter sent to 6-8 Jane Edwards parents on February 17, 2009
- 6th and 7th graders in the 2008-2009 school year: will be moved to Baptist Hill High school as 7th and 8th graders during the 2009-2010 school year. School officials ensured a proper 7-12 design.
District 1 & 23
- Current Status: At the March PTA meeting of each District 1 and 23 elementary school, parents were given the opportunity to discuss School Redesign and its impact on their children.

- Jane Edwards & Frierson will stay open with "per pupil plus" formula; community partnership to supplement school services
