The Bobcat Band of Baptist Hill Middle-High currently includes eight high school students and thirteen seventh graders. All grades perform together at sporting events and community events. One unique aspect of the program is that all participants gain experience on both wind and percussion instruments. Combining this experience with the influence of the community, band members develop into multifaceted musicians.

The art students at Septima P. Clark Academy continue to showcase their talents! Students won two prestigious awards recently. Student Robert Blake won second place in the 2009 the Charleston Fine Art Dealers’ Association (CFADA) High School Art Competition. Clark also took home the first prize in the James Island County Park Festival of Lights Holiday Card competition!

Kindergartenters at EB Ellington Elementary work on mixing primary colors to make secondary colors.E. B. Ellington Elementary

Kindergarten students at E. B. Ellington Elementary have been learning about mixing colors and applying these lessons in art class. They recently mixed paints of primary colors to make secondary colors. They then used paper plates and other materials to create spiders with orange bodies similar to the main character in Eric Carle's book The Very Busy Spider, which they recently read in class.

Ladson Elementary students participated in Field Day in November. This event is held each year to kick off the year in physical education class. Teacher Jane West’s goal is for the students to enjoy fitness and to incorporate exercise into their daily lives. Students are also encouraged to practice good sportsmanship and team spirit throughout the day. Staff and faculty members came to cheer the students on throughout the various events.

Lincoln Middle and High has implemented a new program called Lincoln Organizations Opening Partnerships (LOOP). This program allows the school to publicly honor and acknowledge business partners and organizations which support Lincoln's vision. Lincoln Middle-High has implemented a new program called Lincoln Organizations Opening Partnerships (LOOP). This program allows the school to publicly honor and acknowledge business partners and organizations which support Lincoln's vision.  One invaluable partner is the East Cooper Community Outreach Center (ECCO), which has already  assisted with uniforms and school supplies.  ECCO has also provided support for the ”Getting Ahead” Workshop for parents, in which family members are provided free childcare and dinner while they access educational services. 

Thanks to the initiative of kindergarten teachers Caley Jones and Mrs. Santos, Mt. Zion received the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program for this school year. The children love to receive a special and nutritious snack twice a week, and teachers incorporate lessons about nutrition, science, writing, and even social studies. Mt. Zion Elementary

Thanks to the initiative of kindergarten teachers Caley Jones and Courtney Santos, Mt. Zion Elementary received the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program for this school year. The children love to receive a special and nutritious snack twice a week, and teachers incorporate lessons about nutrition, science, writing, and even social studies. Karla Swain's class engages in work related-activities. Twice a week, these students count and deliver snacks to every student and adult in the school.

At the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Awards Program on November 11 with approximately 80 parents and friends in attendance, the Sixth Grade Academy (SGA) recognized 15 students as SGA Ambassadors. Sixth Grade Academy

At the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Awards Program on November 11 with approximately 80 parents and friends in attendance, the Sixth Grade Academy (SGA) recognized 15 students as SGA Ambassadors. These students meet the criteria for compliant behaviors adopted by the school’s Positive Behavior Intervention Support Team. The competencies are following directions, getting the teacher’s attention, accepting “no” for an answer, accepting feedback, appropriately disagreeing, politely making a request, resisting peer pressure, negotiating, responding to teasing, dealing with an accusation, and apologizing. These individuals will serve as role models to encourage other students to demonstrate these positive behaviors and achieve academically.

The arts are thriving at St. Johns High! The art department- though small- is mighty. In the past month, the school has taken awards at every competition it has entered including the Regional Fair, the County's Recycled Art Contest, and the Holiday Festival of Lights. The program focuses on literacy and has published the art and literary magazine ISLANDER LINES in house for eight consecutive years. The music program now includes a steel band component. World Music specialist Ben Meyer is teaching steel drums at both Haut Gap Middle and St. Johns, and over 50 students are enrolled in the programs!
