High School

Program of Studies and Graduation Requirements

The mission of the Charleston County School District, working in partnership with students, families, the workplace and the community, is to ensure that all students are provided a high quality education that prepares them to succeed in a complex and competitive world.

The Charleston County School District Program of Studies for Grades 9-12 provides a district wide framework for curriculum and instruction at the secondary level. The goal in defining the Program of Studies is to promote quality and alignment in high school course offerings for students.

The design for the secondary curriculum provides flexibility to meet unique needs of individual high schools. Using the menu of courses in this document as a curriculum framework, administrators will make decisions to develop a school-based program of studies to meet the needs of their students. Schools have the option of submitting applications for pilot programs to supplement the defined list of courses.

The Program of Studies promotes quality in course selections for students. Course descriptions for each subject and level establish high expectations and standards for student achievement. This document enables a school to effectively assist its students, in cooperation with their parents, to make appropriate choices for their high school careers.
