Board of Trustees Member Biography

Ms. Ruth Jordan

Ruth Jordan is the product of Charleston County Public Schools, a veteran of 17 years as a federal procurement officer, a soccer mom and top-performing real estate agent.

She attended Mitchell Elementary School, Wallace Middle School and graduated from Middleton High. She then earned an undergraduate degree from Charleston Southern University.

Ruth is married to Everett Jordan and is the proud mother of three children: Danielle, Tesha and Candace, who all attended or currently attend Charleston public schools. Tesha graduated from University of South Carolina, Danielle attends the College of Charleston on full and life scholarships and is on the U.S. National Soccer Team. Candace is an honor student at West Ashley High School.

As a parent and soccer mom, Ruth has a direct stake in public education. As a businesswoman, she also understands the correlation of education and economic growth.

As a procurement officer at the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek, Ruth was responsible contracting and negotiating millions of dollars for goods and services. Upon leaving government service, she joined Prudential Carolina Real Estate, where she is a Top-Producer and Mentor and has earned numerous awards and recognitions.

Ruth has a long history of involvement in local community activities. She has registered more than over 50,000 voters and served on numerous boards and committees including Sea Island Habitat for Humanity, PTSA, West Ashley High School Band and Athletic Booster Clubs, Carolina Girl Soccer Club, College of Charleston Athletic Booster Club, Charleston County Parent Advisory Board, EEO Committee, Sunday School Superintendent and Youth Director at the Open Door Church of Christ.

Ruth is passionate about her work and has championed for public education. She believes that public education is fundamental to ensure a bright and solid future for all students in Charleston County and South Carolina.

Growing up in South Charleston, Ruth was one of 11 children of Pastor Elizabeth and Ed Henry Carter who taught her, "A quitter never wins and winner never quits." She will carry this forward as a member of the Charleston County School Board:
