Board of Trustees Member Biography

Ms. Ruth Jordan

Ruth Jordan is the 2009-2010 Chairperson of the Charleston County School Board of Trustee, Charleston SC. She has served on the Board four (4) years and also serves on the S.C. State School Board Association, her motto is “A Bright Start for Every Child”, and she is a Senior Consultant with Jordan & Williams Consulting Services LLC, a former federal procurement officer of 17 years, and a Community Organizer.

She is a graduate of Charleston Southern University (1980), with a degree in Developmental Psychology and English.

Ruth is married to Everett Jordan and the proud mother of three daughters.  She has a long history of involvement in local community activities. She has served on numerous boards and committees; including the Ministerial Alliance, Habitat for Humanity, Chamber of Commerce, Trident Regional Education Committee, Sunday School Superintendent and Youth Director at the Open Door Church of Christ, S.C. School Board Association, NAACP and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.     

Ruth is passionate about her work and has championed for public education. She believes that public education is fundamental to ensure a bright and solid future for all students in Charleston County and South Carolina. She fights hard too ensure fairness, access and equity for all students of Charleston County.  She is an ambassador, that encourage and promote parental and community participation to help improve communities and schools.

Ruth is an outstanding advocate for civil rights; former S.C and Regional Voter Empowerment Director of the National NAACP, Baltimore Md. She has implemented

Programs to register over 50,000 voters, increase minority participation in the Electoral process and increase voter turn-out.  She is dedicated to the cause of equal justice and opportunity for all persons.
