What Are the Choices Available To Parents Through No Child Left Behind
Federal guidelines from the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) require that Title I schools identified as not making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two or more years offer students three choices:
- 1) Transferring through NCLB public school choice with transportation provided (Learn more about this option) OR
- 2) Remaining at the school, while receiving free tutoring (SES) and participating in school-wide programs if the student meets eligibility requirements. (Learn more about this option) OR
- (3) Remaining at the school and participating in the school-wide academic programs offered at the school.
Under the federal options, eligible families may transfer to another school or receive free tutoring services- but not both.
