What Kinds of Support Does the Parent Liaison Offer?

The Parent Liaison, through the Office of Exceptional Children assists parents, teachers and administrators working with students with learning and behavioral challenges.The Parent Liaison for Students with Disabilities:

  • Serves as a liaison between the school and parents.
  • Meets with parents to determine what their child’s needs are and how to present those to the team.
  • Attends IEP and 504 Plan meetings and coaches parents to ask questions and make requests which will help their child succeed.
  • Helps parents be informed as to what is happening at school and the progress their child is making.
  • Consults with school team members and shares the parents’ perspective on their child.
  • Plans and implements parent workshops so parents are better informed about topics such as behavior management, parent rights and responsibilities, and specific strategies to help their children learn and prepare for life after high school.
  • Is a parent voice in the school district on committees.
  • Participates on area Boards of organizations that help parents.
