Child Development/4-Year-Old Kindergarten Programs
Applying to a CCSD Child Development Program for the 2012-2013 Academic Year
Charleston County School District (CCSD) is currently accepting applications for its Child Development (4-Year-Old Kindergarten) programs for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Pre-registration began on March 6 and ends on May 11, 2012. Parents are encouraged to pre-register early at the district elementary school where their children are zoned to attend.
Pre-registration does not guarantee enrollment in a Child Development program. Selection priority is given to children who demonstrate academic and developmental needs and risk factors. Children will be selected for individual screening appointments based on information provided by the parent on the Pre-Registration Form. Screening appointment cards will be mailed by the schools, and screenings will be scheduled for May 22 through June 1 at school sites. Notification of Child Development program acceptance will be mailed to parents on or before July 9, 2012.
Parents must present the following documents by May 11 in order to preregister:
- the 2012-2013 Child Development Pre-Registration Form (English, Spanish)
- Family Survey
- Copy of a legal birth certificate, proof of residency, certificate of immunization, and social security card (if applicable).

What are CCSD's Child Development/4-Year-Old Kindergarten Programs?
Charleston County School District (CCSD) offers full-day and half-day Child Development/pre-kindergarten for children who are four years of age by September 1.
Full-day Child Development programs are funded under EIA, Title One, and GOF funds. They allow the district to provide full-day instruction for eligible students. CCSD's preschool programs are designed to develop skills necessary for success in the regular public school curriculum with a focus on emergent literacy, early numeracy, science and social studies. Through full day and half day inclusive preschool programming, the needs of bilingual, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and preschool children with special education needs are met.
